When providing post-surgical lymphatic massage after a plastic surgery procedure, it is common to observe areas of hardness or lumpiness in regions treated with liposuction or SmartLipo®, particularly in the abdominal area. These tissue changes may be more noticeable when liposuction is combined with additional body-contouring procedures, such as fat transfer, commonly known as a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).
It is expected to experience and observe these changes following your procedure. Post-surgical swelling occurs as a result of inflammation and tissue trauma caused by the movement of the cannula—the instrument used to remove fat—beneath the skin. As the cannula creates small channels within the tissue, these spaces may temporarily fill with fluid, contributing to swelling, firmness, or uneven texture during the healing process.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage helps to move the fluid by gently pumping it back into the lymph vessels. The discomfort reduces as the swelling goes down too, this allows quicker healing to the area and overall.
If the inflammation is untreated it can convert into fibrosis (a permanent hardening of the tissue) or a seroma ( pocket of serum) can form. Much more doctors are recommending Lymphatic Drainage Therapy after liposuction to make sure their patients get the best possible results from their procedure. It is great for reducing the visibility of scars from breast reduction, breast lift, tummy tuck or any incision done during any type of surgery.
Lymphatic drainage can help patients heal after surgery by reducing swelling and detoxifying the body. It can help improve the immune system by removing blockages preventing the flow of lymphatic materials.
With our post-surgical massage we also include other than the lymphatic drainage massage, microcurrent scar & pain release therapy which helps brake down adhesions created by the cannula, laser procedure.
Is a handheld device that follows acupuncture protocol and is applied before the lymphatic drainage massage so that it removes any blockage produced the by procedure, assisting for better fluid drainage. The fluids are drained without opening any incision, by the natural process of urine, bowel movement, sweat and body absorption.
Now, we have also incorporated to make the treatment even much smoother the Crystal LymphWaves Laser. This is a safe frequency that can break down without any added trauma the congested, or stubborn lymph post-surgical clients are experiencing.
**We do not treat patients with drains still on, or perform opening of any incision for the body to flush, this is very dangerous and the Department of Health in Florida frowns greatly on this practice, since this can only be performed by a licensed medical doctor, not a licensed massage therapist. Items to consider during your Plastic surgery recovery:
Post Surgical Fajas – Compression garments
Cupping Therapy Suction Cups – Helps with breaking down seromas between post-surgical massage.
Roller massager – This tool for myofascial release and deep tissue massage
Collagen supplement– Collagen occurs naturally in your body. It is the glue that binds the protein tissues and makes your skin look plump, healthy, and firm. Due to the surgery there is an interruption of the collagen production, so we suggest to start taking a supplement before and after surgery.

All plastic surgery procedures produce some degree of swelling, as this is a normal part of the body’s healing response. Certain surgeries—such as liposuction and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)—can significantly disrupt the natural pathways of the lymphatic system due to the extent and location of tissue manipulation.
In other areas of the body, such as the nose following rhinoplasty, swelling may persist for an extended period and can last up to a year. Similarly, other facial cosmetic procedures may result in swelling that continues for several months.
Because of the broad areas of tissue disruption involved, tummy tucks and liposuction procedures typically result in the greatest amount of lymphatic swelling among cosmetic surgeries.
Because every patient is different; in effect, we know that most doctors advise their patients to begin their Lymphatic Drainage massage treatment after the 4th or 5th day after surgery to obtain the best, and fastest, results. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to encourage the muscle tissue toward greater pliability, so you can really benefit from the work in those critical first few weeks after surgery.
We recommend at least six sessions of post surgical massage therapy, with home care between treatments. Follow a nutritious lifestyle and start your exercise routine once your doctor approves it.
