CranioSacral Therapy How can CranioSacral therapy benefit me?

For those curious of what Craniosacral is, it is a bodywork modality.  CST  is another alternative therapy in which a trained practitioner gently massages certain "touch points" on your skull and manipulates the tiny joints of your cranium.

It is known that this therapy has been helpful in individuals with a wide variety of health problems, including chronic constipation, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), migraines, neck pain and TMJ or disorders of the temporomandibular joint.

Client may experience how  the therapist gently massages the touch points on a patient's skull to regulate cerebrospinal fluid and manipulate the tiny joints of the cranium. The therapist will gently apply finger pressure to selected points around the torso, knees and feet. Patients, who lie on a massage table fully clothed, have reported relief from tension and an overall feeling of relaxation. Many attribute this pain relief and peaceful feeling to the release of endorphins, all of which may help some individuals manage pain.

Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, noninvasive form of bodywork that addresses the bones of the head, spinal column and sacrum. The goal is to release compression in those areas which alleviates stress and pain. Our trained therapists with this modality are able to sense or find areas on the client’s body where energy is blocked or there are restrictions in the muscles or fascia that need to be released. As we know our bodies are made up of energy that moves and pulses at different rates depending on restrictions in the fascia or other places in the body. Craniosacral therapists are specially trained to find and correct these imbalances by helping the cerebrospinal fluid flow more correctly.

How many sessions will I need?
This depends on what your goals are, what symptoms you suffer from, and how readily your system responds to this therapy. As a general rule, three to ten sessions will have a significant impact on most people's health, and in some cases only one session can make a dramatic difference. Often, clients receive regular sessions for longer periods of time, followed by an occasional tune-up to maintain health.

What kind of symptoms respond best to CST?It has been noted that CST may be helpful in treating conditions such as pinch cranial nerves or spinal nerves, left-right imbalances, head injuries, confusion, feelings of compression or pressure, anxiety, depression, circulatory disorders, organ dysfunctions, learning difficulties, neuro-endocrine problems, TMJ and dental problems, and trauma of all kinds — birth, falls, accidents and other injuries, physical, sexual or emotional abuse, PTSD, loss/grief, surgery, anesthesia, among others. CST is also excellent as a preventive therapy because it can facilitate the resolution of imbalances within a patient/client's system that s/he may not be consciously aware of.
